1. Luxembourg nationals living in Ireland

As Luxembourg citizen residing in the Republic of Ireland, you are exempt of the possession of an ETA in order to travel to the UK if:

  • you can prove* that you are a resident of the Republic of Ireland, and
  • as long as you are traveling within the Common Travel Area.

*Only valid and original documents issued by Irish authorities are accepted as proof of residence.

Please note that if you are traveling to the UK, as a resident of the Republic of Ireland, from outside the Common Travel Area (e.g. from Luxembourg to London), you have to apply for an ETA, except if you are on a transit flight and you do not have to pass border control at the UK airport (e.g. from Luxembourg to Dublin via London, but you have to make sure you do not have to pass border control during your transit).

In case you can prove that you also have Irish or UK citizenship, you are generally exempt of the possession of an ETA to travel to the UK.

2. Luxembourg nationals visiting Ireland

Luxembourg citizens (also minors) visiting the Republic of Ireland have to apply for an ETA only if they want to travel to the UK (e.g. Northen Ireland) during their stay. Visitors are advised to apply at least 3 working days before the travel dates.
